In addition to Penne itself there are plenty of interesting places to visit. Here is just a sample

Pescara - A major town, port and seaside resort, with a good range of seafront restaurants and a sandy beach.

Sulmona - home of the 'confetti sugared almonds fashioned into colourful flower decorations and the annual jousting tournaments in July/August.

Scanno - sleepy town where the older ladies of the village still dress in traditional black aproned costumes

Castelli - with many workshops where you can watch traditional Italian ceramics being made.

Chieti - Remains of a Roman Coliseum, fascinating Roman museum and impressive church.

Campo Impetore mountains - In winter a ski resort, in summer a place to walk and enjoy spectacular views. Here you can visit the hotel suite where Mussolini was held captive for two weeks during World War II.

L'Aquila - Capital town of Abruzzo with historic Castle, Museum and Roman ruins to visit, along with plenty of shops and restaurants.

Atri - Hillside town with fantastic scenic views.

Castel Di Monte - A deserted hilltop medieval town with spectacular views.

San Stefano Di Sessanio - A delightful hilltop town where time has stood still, featuring a maze of narrow streets and a tower from which to view to look out over the rooftops.

 Vasto - Sandy beaches and historic hilltop town with castle, cathedral and thermal baths.
