Days out
in Abruzzo
In addition to Penne itself there are
plenty of interesting places to visit. Here is just a sample

town, port and seaside resort, with a good range of seafront restaurants
and a sandy beach.
Sulmona -
home of the 'confetti sugared almonds fashioned into colourful flower
decorations and the annual jousting tournaments in July/August.
Scanno - sleepy town
where the older ladies of the village still dress in traditional black
aproned costumes
Castelli - with many
workshops where you can watch traditional Italian ceramics being made.
Chieti - Remains of
a Roman Coliseum, fascinating Roman museum and impressive church.
Campo
Impetore
mountains - In winter a ski resort, in summer a place to walk and enjoy
spectacular views. Here you can visit the hotel suite where Mussolini
was held captive for two weeks during World War II.
L'Aquila - Capital
town of Abruzzo with historic Castle, Museum and Roman ruins to visit,
along with plenty of shops and restaurants.
Atri - Hillside town
with fantastic scenic views.

San
Stefano
Di
Sessanio

hilltop town where time has stood
still, featuring a maze of narrow streets and a tower from which to view
to look out over the rooftops.
Vasto
